My girlfriend and I took a 4-hour trip to a small town in East Texas.
We found an awesome gem hidden in the wild. It was a small antique store that turned out to be more like a mini museum of clocks and telephones.
When we left the house, I didn’t know what to expect because I wasn’t familiar with the town, but when we arrived, I was impressed.
As we walked inside, you could see all kinds of different interesting items displayed everywhere. It felt like going back in time because there were a lot of old items, especially clocks and telephones.
The owner welcomed my girlfriend and me. We talked for a while, I got curious about some items and started to ask some questions, then the owner said, do y’all want to see something cool?
“Of course,” we reply!
We were already excited to be there. All the old clocks and telephones hanging from the shining wooden walls looked pretty unique.
So he walked away from the counter and told us to follow him. He took us to the back of the store and showed us an old music player.
This music console was super impressive and unique. The music it played wasn’t stored on Tape Recorders, CDs, or the internet using WIFI; the music was stored in “pieces of wood.”
To play the music, he had to turn a handle over and over. Every time he wanted to change the song, he would replace the pieces of wood with another one. It was very cool, very unique, and very old!
We left with a smile on our faces, knowing that the trip and the time spent were worth it.
That place reminded me of us humans and all of our awesome potential hidden inside our minds.
It pains me to see how a lot of folks complain about their lives, but they do nothing about it. They would rather watch football or drink a beer to ease their pain, not realizing that the pain will never go away unless they change something. That something is THEMSELVES.
A mentor of mine told me one day, he said, “Everything you want is uphill and if you want to change your lifestyle, you have to start by changing yourself.”
He’s right because the harsh truth is this...
“NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE YOU.”
You are your own problem, but you are also your own solution. My suggestion to you is this – Stop being a hidden gem like this antique store and start unleashing your awesome human potential trapped inside you.
