Welcome back, my friend!

I’m curious!

Are you accidentally blowing up your deals because you're more focused on your commission check than the buyer sitting in front of you?

When sales drop or the end of the month gets tight, it's easy to slip into panic mode. I’ve seen countless associates fall into this trap. They get desperate, stop listening to the client, and start treating every walk-in like a cash machine instead of a human being (I’ve been there too).

Here’s the reality... buyers can smell desperation from across the showroom floor, and the moment they feel pushed, they walk.

Today, I’m going to show you how to shift from a scarcity mindset to a service mindset, plus the exact script to handle the typical "I'm just looking" brush-off excuse.

Let's dive in.

The Big Idea

Stop selling your buyer from a scarcity mindset and start serving your buyer from the heart.

The Trap

Selling from a state of scarcity makes you desperate, which forces you into a self-centered state of mind. When this happens, associates forget about solving their buyers’ pain, problems, needs, or wants and only focus on grabbing a big fat commission check.

When you operate out of fear, you rush the process. If you're dealing with a Steady "S" style buyer who needs security and trust or a Conscientious "C" style buyer who needs facts and transparency, a high-pressure, desperate pitch will trigger their alarm bells instantly. They will say no and walk right out the door.

The Fix

Focus 100% on solving your buyer’s true pain, problem, need, or want. Ask probing questions to uncover what’s actually driving their visit and pay close attention to their keywords. When you stop pitching and start diagnosing, you turn a high-pressure sales pitch into a high-value consultation.

Why This Matters to Your Pocket

By shifting your mindset from selling to serving, you send a clear non-verbal signal to your buyer: "Hey, I care about you and your problem."

This automatically lowers their guard and builds authentic trust. Your chances of closing the deal dramatically increase because people do business with people they know, like, and trust. Service leads to signatures, and signatures lead to bigger ethical commission checks. The section below will tell you what’s happening in your industry and how it benefits or damages your commissions 👇

RPM: Real Product & Market Data – (The Morning Meeting Stat)

Thomas King, president of OEM solutions at JD Power:
Demand for new vehicles continues to be strong, with July delivering the highest annualized sales pace so far this year at 16.9 million units, with unit sales projected to rise 1.4% compared to a year ago.

The buyers are out there, and the market is moving. The only question is whether they are buying from you or the associate down the street.

Real Customer Scenario

A buyer walks through your doors. You make a great first impression, nail the meet and greet, and ask the buyer, "How can I serve you today?"

The buyer hits you with the classic defensive wall: "I’m just here to look."

What To Say To Get The Deal

When they tell you they're just looking, don't do what the average associate does. They say, “ok, no problem,” and walk away. Use this 3-step framework to lower their defenses:

  • Step 1: "Awesome! Can I ask you a quick question?"

  • Step 2: "Is there anything specific that you want to see? I just want to point you in the right direction so you can have something good to look at!"

  • Step 3: "If you have any questions, let me know. If you don’t find anything you like today, here’s my card. Feel free to call me anytime so I can help you find the right vehicle that you want or need. Again, just here to help. Have an awesome day"

Handling The Objection

  • The Pushback: "No, that’s fine. I’m good, thanks."

  • The Counter-Track: "Sure, no worries at all—I’m just trying to help! Don’t worry, I’m not here to sell you today. I’m here to serve you. Here’s my card just in case something comes to mind while you're looking around."

Today’s Floor Challenge

On your next 3 ups, do not ask "How can I help you?"

Instead, look them in the eye, smile, and ask: "How can I serve you today?"

Watch their face change when they realize you are actually there to serve them—not just sell them the next vehicle on the lot to hit a quota.
